Partners:

The ADAMANT project has the following partners, they all have different strengths in different research field:

Queen Mary, University of London

Queen Mary and Westfield College will exploit the results and knowledge from this project by generating research papers to reinforce its standing as a major research-led university and to maintain its position as such. The work will extend the ability of the College to generate new research funding from other sources, such as UK Government and industry. Income to the College from HEFCE (the QR component) depends specifically on its research standing.

The Department has also established a “spin-off” company (Agent-Tel) specifically to exploit its work on using agents in telecommunications networks. Output from ADAMANT will be exploited through that company.

Bell Labs Research

There is a two-fold objective to the exploitation of the results by Lucent Technologies.
• Firstly, Bell-Labs the research arm of Lucent Technologies has a vested interest in promoting the academic results of this project through the generation of research papers. With this type of exploitation Bell-Labs intends to promote its academic presence in Europe through its lab in Swindon UK.
• Secondly, Lucent Technologies sees the results of this type of project as key to enabling 3G services to be widely adopted. In this regard Lucent Technologies would be keen to promote the positive results of this project through the relevant standardisation bodies.

Institute of Communication and Computer Systems/ National Technical University of Athens

ICCS/NTUA has been established with an objective to advance the level of scientific knowledge of the society in general to the degree feasible within its powers. For the accomplishment of this objective two activities are employed:

• The educational in which existing and well established knowledge and methods are proliferated among the attendants of the University lectures and activities.

• The research into enhancements and extensions of our understanding of scientific disciplines.

ICCS/NTUA intends to exploit its participation in the project for exposing its graduate engineers and researchers in innovative technological sectors, such as the delivery of services for travellers through demanding radio environments. Therefore, the need for improving the knowledge level of its staff, as is achieved through the participation in research programmes like ADAMANT, is imperative and can be considered as one aspect of the exploitation of results. On the other hand, the parallel need for important research achievements, building and maintaining the prestige and high status of the organisation should not be underestimated as a tool for the accomplishment of the objectives. In this sense, the continuation of a successful chain of research achievements and a high educational level for the institution render the successful involvement in prestigious research efforts indispensable. The results from ADAMANT will be exploited in collaboration with the Greek wireless telecommunication operators and associated organisations. ICCS/NTUA puts extreme value on its participation in high level research with manufacturers, operators and other industrial partners, since this is the only way to be promptly acquainted with upcoming standards and imminent technical and implementation decisions.

Panafon-Vodafone

Panafon-Vodafone will contribute to the publication of the project results and approaches so as to allow the telecommunication industry key players to make 3G the key enabling technology for providing market oriented innovative wireless multimedia services. Moreover, Panafon-Vodafone being a member of the Vodafone Group maintains strong connections and interactions with all European operators of the same group. These connections will be exploited so as to promote the published results of the project to all European operators of the group.

Athens International Airport

AIA intends to exploit the results from ADAMANT, in order to enhance the provision of services to its customers and visitors. The underlying technologies in this project, i.e., GSM/GPRS, TETRA and WLAN are extremely promising for the achievement of the AIA’s objectives. As a state-of-the-art organisation dealing with air traffic and travelling, AIA aspires to have a direct implementation and exploitation of the expected results. TETRA is the new standard for digital trunked radio systems, which has been defined to meet the needs of the most demanding Professional Mobile Radio users in their dynamically evolving environment. The participation in ADAMANT project will enable a new approach to management issues of resources through TETRA, which is basically used for business communications within the space limitations of the airport.
